Platinum palladium prints of the photographs of Herbert Ponting, Frank Hurley,Captain Scott.
“We are delighted to be exhibiting at Unseen. These images have rarely been seen outside of the UK before. The stories they tell, of Scott, Shackleton and others, remain as compelling today as they did 100 years ago. It is a great privilege for us at Salto Ulbeek to work with these archives and to be entrusted with printing these images.” Georges Charlier, Salto Ulbeek
Salto Ulbeek’s most significant current exhibition project is titled FURTHER SOUTH. Modular in scale, it represents the culmination of more than a decade of work to preserve, publish, and renew our appreciation of early Antarctic photography.
Spanning three decades - from the end of the nineteenth century to the interwar period - FURTHER SOUTH brings together, for the first time, over 200 of the most significant and visually arresting photographs ever brought back from Antarctica.
At a time when the continent faces increasing pressure from human activity, the exhibition invites us to return to the magical moment when the South first revealed itself to the world through the power of photography and film.
For collaborating institutions, the subject of Antarctica offers exceptional visibility and resonance, engaging an ever-expanding audience drawn to photography, exploration, and extreme environments.
